01 Hello, let's build worlds

I made an About Worldbuild Online page that felt a bit too impersonal to me, so since I did manage to get the blog part of this working, here we go:

Hi, I am Munin, I am a writer, traditional illustrator, pixel artist, 3D modeler, currently working on Wizarducks and The Lost Hat. I made over a 1000 monsters in a year once, I write fan stuff since I was like 5, and I love creating characters and telling stories, and I used to have a blog where I published stories, and another where I would read manga.

A few years ago I spent a lot of money on this website domain and it has been part of my ADHD tax of not getting things on with it ever since. It was always a “later” thing, “let’s just make a tiny sketch” , so on.

2025 was one of the worse years of my life, I’m still recovering from all the depression and anxiety, and… one of the best inspirational quotes I got last year was from the channel PhysicsDuck:

Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are

So I decided to write about 8 articles from scratch to shrug the rust off my keyboard, ignore the layout of the website so long it is online, and go with it.

What I hope to do

I think the best of my procrastination time was spending way too much time on TV Tropes, and maybe that is why I feel so at home at my Obsidian vault.

Unfortunately, lately… any content about writing feels like I’ve already heard a dozen times before, I can’t also sit and watch series as I’d like… my brain is overheating wanting some kind of stimulation, I just miss… writing.

Well, I already do a lot of writing daily, but never quite the things I want to do. So I figured I could encourage myself on writing things I want, with things I always felt like saying out loud, and hopefully have something entertaining for someone going through that journey writing too.

Who knows, maybe after a few articles I start writing my stories again, that would be fun.

What would you like to avoid

I would like to avoid extra work.

This blog is basically my therapy session, which is taking the brain cyclone of my head and dumping somewhere other than a text file on my computer.

So no comments to manage (sorry), no grandiose plan of getting to x subscribers. Nothing.

If you have something to say hopefully you can find me on reddit or on an e-mail I set up one day, but for now, nothing.

What tools are you using?

I write basically everything on Obsidian. I never wrote anything professionally on Obsidian, though, it is still on my bucketlist. So take the quality of this blog on, things will be very amateurish until I get the hang of it.

I cannot recommend Obsidian more. I actually have a thread that gets reposted a lot if you wanna get started, I need to update it too, it has been a while.

If you want to save yourself a headache, Obsidian has its own backup and publish system.

Why are you not using Obsidian Publish

Last time I checked I couldn’t use actually use my own website domain, which means this one would be still sitting on a shelve making me feel guilty. Likewise a lot of plugins to generate websites just dump everything directly which GitHub which I don’t like.

I also bought a long plan of many website hostings during an emergency to keep our hacked website online during a convention, so I might as well use it.

I also hope to one day style the website to my own design even if I have to drop other tools, but right now me having a search and a menu is all I wanted.

Why are you using MkDocs?

MkDocs + material was surprisingly easy to convert the wikilinks from Obsidian, but if you are afraid of the terminal I don’t recommend.

I’m still no good at it either, I can’t even make the author be detected on blog posts, and when I look for it all I find is a thread from three years ago of a bug that was fixed.

All I can say I say besides that is while I love Eleventy and Pug to code websites, I do hate having to configure anything on Javascript, which it insists on doing.

My friend Dharc

I have a friend that we exchange writings since we were teenagers, and he is a much better writer than me, so he freaks out on grammar mistakes and I just let the goblins in his head take it from there.

Content Update

I’m not sure if and when I’ll get the RSS working or some sort of e-mail notification, and if it shows new pages in general or just the blog, so I might as well create the habit of listing the posts here too, I’ll likely update them in batches.

Most of those were written within a week.

  1. Cookbook Worldbuilding - This is the first post I made of this batch, hopefully we’ll get to make something like that, but again, NO PLANS. BAD MUNIN.
  2. The Landscaper Writer - A critique about the polarization of planning stories.
  3. Butt Stuff - So you know what we are all about.
  4. Alternate Showers aren't hard - I actually talk about my writings this time.
  5. Detecting Power Levels - The often ignored part of the power scaling problem.
  6. Fantastical Localization - A minor food for thought when you are picking up your terminology and vocabulary.
  7. They shouldn't have written that way - This is something I had in my mind for a long time and decided to publish right away so I can link on reddit discussions.
  8. Your food should spoil - Despite the name, I recommend you eating something before reading.
